The Best of Both Worlds: How the Studio Partnership Works

We believe families should have total freedom over what their child learns, with professional support for how it gets done.

  • You Choose the Path :

  1. You maintain ultimate control by registering as an independent homeschool family or partnering with a local charter school — which often covers part of your studio tuition!

  2. You select a curriculum that fits your child's needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It is a much simpler process than traditional school districts want you to believe. To transition into our studio, you simply choose one of two administrative pathways: joining a local independent study charter or filing a 5-minute Private School Affidavit (PSA) online. Once you establish your chosen pathway, your new administrative umbrella automatically requests your child's records, seamlessly unenrolling them for you. No awkward meetings with the principal required. We even created a simple guide to walk you through exactly how this works!

  • You are already one step ahead! Because Blue Horizon Studio operates as a daytime workspace, your current legal setup fits perfectly. You simply keep your child enrolled in your existing charter or maintain your private affidavit. But now, you get to offload the hardest parts of homeschooling to us. You use our space, our daily rhythm, and our Expert Mentors to handle the day-to-day teaching, so you can go back to just being a parent instead of playing 'Principal' at the kitchen table.

  • Both paths work perfectly with our program, and the choice simply comes down to whether you prefer total independence or access to state funding. Because Blue Horizon Studio is a boutique learning workspace rather than a traditional school, you maintain the legal status of a homeschooler.

Here is a straightforward breakdown of the two options:

Option 1: The Public Charter Pathway

    • How it works: You enroll your child in a non-classroom-based public charter school.

    • The Benefit: The charter school provides an instructional fund that can be used to pay for your child's curriculum and can often be applied directly to your Blue Horizon Studio tuition.

    • The Trade-off: Because it is a public school, your child will need to participate in standard state testing, and you will have a brief monthly check-in with a charter teacher. (Do not worry—since we handle the daily work in the studio, we help you gather the work samples you need for these meetings).

Option 2: The Independent Private Pathway (Filing a PSA)

    • How it works: You file a Private School Affidavit (PSA) with the state of California, legally establishing your home as an independent private school.

    • The Benefit: Total freedom. You have 100% control over the schedule, there is no mandatory state testing, and you do not report to anyone outside of your family.

    • The Trade-off: You will pay for your digital curriculum and your studio tuition entirely out of pocket, as there is no state funding provided.

How to Decide: If your primary goal is to offset the cost of tuition and you do not mind minimal state oversight, the Charter Pathway is an excellent choice. If you want absolute autonomy over your child's education without any state testing, the Independent Pathway is the right fit.

  • No. Studio Chromebooks are provided for all students. Your child only needs to bring a set of headphones with a built-in microphone (standard 3.5mm jack or USB-C).
